Our long-time friends, Brittany and Victor, carved a few days out of their trip to Naples to visit us. Obviously, we needed to show them Lisbon – which we had not yet visited! We got a rush lesson in the bus, train and metro system and schedules, planned a route for the most-spoken-of “must sees”, a few specific “want to sees”, and “whatever else is along the path. In all, it worked out well! Check out the video to get a look at:
- Pasteis de Belem, arguably the home of the most famous pastries in Portugal.
- Jeronimos Monastery, the most famous example of Manueline architecture.
- Tower of Belem, guarding the Tagus River mouth for half a millenium.
- Belem lighthouse (not really a lighthouse -but a decorative tower on the Belem waterfront).
- Monument to the Discoveries, honoring the explorers who boldy set out to map and discover the world.
- Praca do Comcercio, one of the largest publis squares in Europe and an iconic visual commonly used in movies to tell the audience that they are in Lisbon.
- Castelo Sao Jorge, the fortress-on-high that has looked over the city for a millenium.
