Do You Love Football?

There are iconic moments in your life where you realize why something is just…right (or, you know, sometimes…wrong). I had one of those today. It was just one of those things that was ‘all about how my world works and why I love it.’

Bernie won prizes for programming back in junior high, but these days, he has me. He jokes that if anything ever happens to me, he will never arrive to work on time again; all of the clocks and electronics in the house will just flash “12:00” and/or cease working.

Today, after kissing him goodbye, telling him to ‘be safe today’ and heading off to work, just like any other day. I got an e-mail from my husband.

“I would like the book “Do You Love Football” by Jon Gruden to magically appear on my kindle.

Bern
PS: Love Ya!”

He is perfectly capable of going to Amazon, ordering the book, and getting it to his kindle. OK, that last part would take a minute – but he’d get there. But… he doesn’t have to. Because he sent that e-mail, and the next time he picks up his kindle (or either of the two tablets that have the kindle app, which he also uses to read), it will be there, waiting for him to open it.

But this is Bernie. He once explained to a friend that his entire plan for taking over the world was (here he spread his arms in my direction) “…Behold! I tell Di I want it, and she makes it happen.” He then reeled off a long list of things he has wanted in life that he told me about – and I set about ensuring they occurred.

So – that’s how he does things – even things he knows he can do himself (if he knows it will make me happy to do them for him). He sends Nixie a note and asks for the book to appear and then forgets about it – he’s happy. I get to be useful and do something nice for my husband – I’m happy. One of those things that just makes our marriage – my world – “right.”

Behold!
